A 37-year-old man was found dead inside a Bronx apartment in New York City after cops responded to a 911 call about an assault in progress.

Investigators believe the victim was beaten to death, but no arrests have been made.

Police arrived at the victim's NYCHA apartment in Melrose around 12:40 p.m. Saturday after a 911 call about an assault. Cops arrived to find the victim lifeless inside the apartment with severe trauma injuries to his head and body, according to 1010 WINS.

The case was being investigated as a homicide. A medical examiner's report could help determine the exact cause that led to his death.

Neighbors told the NY Daily News that the victim and his live-in boyfriend would often have altercations with each other.

They would fight "maybe every other month," neighbor Crystal Rivera, 31, told the outlet.

"At one point [it] started to get really really bad. I think they got into a really bad dispute. Looked like the [partner] was miserable," Rivera added.

Rivera said she didn't know who might have killed the victim as there were several people visiting the apartment.

"He had a lot of [people] in and out of his crib. There was a guy who had keys to his house," she added.

The neighbor also noted that someone had arrived last week and banged on the victim's apartment door. However, she said she did not hear anything strange on the day the victim was allegedly beaten to death.

"I'm in shock. No banging, no stuff getting thrown," she told the outlet. "I'm spooked. It's really sad."

Rivera described the Bronx apartment victim as a friendly and helpful person who suffered from diabetes and had been receiving disability assistance.

"He was really nice, help anybody," she said. "Clean up the building. He was resourceful. Good community man."

An unrelated incident was reported last week after New York police entered a Brooklyn apartment and found a dismembered body stuffed in several suitcases. The grim discovery was made after residents called 911 and reported a foul smell coming from the sixth-floor apartment. Neighbors said the apartment was occupied by a young couple that appeared to be in their 20s and would often fight with each other before the body was found.
