A man was arrested Wednesday after he killed his sister and dumped her body in a canal over a “mobile phone dispute" in Faisalabad, Pakistan.

Police said the accused, identified as Adnan, tortured the victim, 28-year-old Afshan, before killing her with a dagger while she was asleep. He then dumped Afshan’s body in a canal. Though the exact date of the incident was not known, police said they began looking for the suspect after the body was discovered last week. The authorities also buried the body as nobody came forward to claim it.

Investigations led the officers to the victim’s home Wednesday. During interrogation, Adnan confessed to the crime and said he killed his sister in a fit of rage after they had an argument over phone. The man was then taken into custody. Charges filed against the accused remained unknown.

The incident comes less than a month after a man from Karachi, Pakistan, killed his sister for having an “illicit relationship” with a man. The accused opened fire on his sister before fleeing from the scene. He also shot and injured another man while escaping. The victim succumbed to injuries and 30 bullet shells were recovered from the crime scene.

In another similar incident in Pakistan’s Mansehra in March, a man was arrested for killing his sister and brother-in-law. Police said the accused was angry with his sister for getting married without the family’s consent. He went to meet the couple at their home on the day of the incident and opened fire on his sister and her husband. The couple died on the spot.
