A "brutal rapist" with "sacrifice" tattooed across his forehead is wanted in Florida for assaulting a woman and mutilating her before she managed to escape.

The Orlando police are on the lookout for the suspect, Bruce Whitehead, 54, for charges of "armed kidnapping, armed sexual battery and attempted murder," Cpl. Evan Avila of the Orange County Sheriff's Office sex crimes unit said in a statement.

Whitehead, who is a registered sexual predator, had approached the victim near the Florida Mall around 4 a.m. Saturday. The woman willing sat in his car and was driven around by Whitehead to different locations, News 6 WKMG reported.

Whitehead stopped at a convenience store and bought the woman some water before taking her to another location and stopping the car. The suspect is said to have walked around to the passenger's seat and threatened the woman at knifepoint. He then allegedly raped the victim, mutilated her, and also tried to kill her.

"After he sexually battered her, he attempted to murder our victim. At that point our victim bravely fought him off and was able to escape to a nearby subdivision," Avila added and called the victim "brave."

Bystanders helped the victim after her escape.

Deputies responded and found a woman who was "scared and shocked," and said she thought Whitehead would murder her.

The woman received medical attention while Whitehead remained on the run, WESH 2 News reported.

"Personally, I would qualify him as a monster. That's my personal take," Avila said about the suspect. "At the sheriff's office, we do believe him to be a danger to the community, which is why we have reached out to the citizens of Central Florida in an effort to bring him in so he doesn't harm somebody else."

Whitehead is described as 6 foot 1 inch tall and weighing 200 pounds and has reportedly served jail time for a similar incident before. He was convicted of kidnapping, armed sexual battery, and first-degree attempted murder in 1986 and spent 20 years behind bars before being released in 2007.

Officials believe Whitehead has not fled the area and urged the public to call 911 if they spot him anywhere. "We would ask the public not to approach him, not to engage him if you see him," Avila said. "Call 911."
