A 37-year-old Indian woman was raped inside a school bus by a bus driver, who was later tracked down by the victim's son and beaten up before the local police got involved.

The victim, a mother of three, is employed at a private school and was on her way home from work when the sexual assault took place in the Indian city of Bengaluru Tuesday evening.

The woman reportedly flagged a bus down and was offered a ride by the bus driver, employed by another school, The Hindu reported.

The accused bus driver, identified as Shiva Kumar, later parked the vehicle "in a dimly lit place," the victim said in her police complaint, according to the Times of India.

"He gagged me and raped me," the woman added.

Kumar then dropped the woman near her house. She managed to click a picture of the bus before it vanished from the scene.

"After alighting from the bus, I took a picture of the bus on my mobile so that I could keep it as evidence," the woman said further.

The woman went back home crying and locked herself up inside a room in her house.

Her 21-year-old son reportedly told cops that his mother eventually told him what happened and showed her a picture of the bus.

"After much pleading, my mother opened the door and told me what had happened. She showed me the picture of the bus," he told cops, as per the outlet.

The youngster then set out on a search for Kumar with his friends.

"I called my friends and we began searching for the vehicle. I enquired with several shops and eateries for I was sure that it will be parked somewhere nearby," the son continued.

The son and his friends finally found the parked school bus and nabbed Kumar, who was asleep inside the vehicle.

The son beat up the accused man with the help of his friends. This prompted passersby to call the cops.

The son explained the series of events to law enforcement officials.

Kumar received medical attention for the injuries he sustained from being attacked by the son and his friends.

The bus driver was arrested and reportedly charged with rape, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, grievous hurt and assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
