A man and his accomplice were arrested in India for allegedly stabbing the live-in partner of the main accused for forcing him to marry her. The suspects dumped the victim's body in the woods after the murder, police said.

The investigation began after the unidentified 22-year-old woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds on Jan. 6 in a jungle near Thane, a metropolitan city close to Mumbai in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

Cops recovered the victim's mobile phone from the scene and established her identity. The suspect was zeroed in after reviewing the CCTV footage of the area, the news outlet Free Press Journal reported.

"We scanned the CCTV footage of the area and of different places on Mumbai-Nashik highway. After scanning, we found the woman with two men on a motorcycle and post that we unlocked the deceased's phone which helped us identify her," Sandeep Gite, an investigating officer said.

Investigators determined that the suspect, identified as Rizwan was in a live-in relationship with the victim for the past year. During interrogation, they found out that Rizwan planned a plot to kill the victim as she was forcing him into marriage. Rizwan took the victim for a ride and stabbed her to death along with his friend Arshad, police said, as reported by news outlet NDTV.

Both the suspects face murder charges, reports said.

"During the investigation, we came to know that the woman was a resident of Avchitpada area in Bhiwandi. Our team along with the Bhiwandi police laid a trap and arrested the main accused identified as Rizwan and his friend Arshad from their homes. We have registered a case under IPC sections 302 (murder) against both the accused. We are further investigating the case," Gite added.

In a similar incident last month, a New York City teen was wanted for murdering a 16-year-old girl he was in a relationship with. The victim, identified as Saniyah Lawrence, was found brutally stabbed when police responded to the house she was staying. The duo reportedly got into an argument at the apartment which led to the murder. Police were looking for the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Zyaire Crumbley.
