A Utah man was charged for torturing his dog before killing it and then telling his friend that he “enjoyed” doing it.

Cailean Torquil Macdona MacLeod, 20, was charged with “torture of a companion animal” and “unlawful detention” Tuesday.

According to court documents, one of MacLeod’s friends contacted police Feb.12 after the accused made some comments about killing his dog. The accused told his friend that "he had killed his dog and wanted to join the military to kill people.” He also admitted to have “enjoyed hurting the dog and he deeply loved to choke her and found pleasure in it.”

The friend also asked the police to conduct a welfare check on MacLeod’s live-in girlfriend to ensure she was safe. When police contacted his girlfriend, she said their dog, a collie-Australian shepherd mix, had died in January. She told them that on the day of the dog’s death, MacLeod had told her the pooch had died of a blood clot. However, on Feb.12 he changed the story and said he strangled the dog. He then told her that after strangulating the dog, he cut its tongue twice with a knife and "punched her in the head,” the Desert News reported.

The accused also showed her the areas in the house where he had punched and kicked the dog. He also pushed her against a wall to show how he would pick the dog by the throat. The woman admitted that she wanted to break up with him fearing that he would “do to her what he had done to Mocha.”

The girlfriend also told police the dog, named Mocha, had a leg amputated in the past after the accused "threw her down the stairs and she suffered a broken leg.” She also added that the dog was terrified of MacLeod.

The charging documents stated that during police interrogation, MacLeod "admitted he struggled with the thought of killing people and if he liked it. (He) stated that he wanted to be a drone pilot because they have a high kill ratio,” the Salt Lake Tribune reported.
