  • Borussia Monchengladbach is dangling Thuram for a bargain price

Manchester United needs to find a player who can take the place of Cristiano Ronaldo, and it appears they do have one in mind

According to a report from BILD, the Red Devils are now pondering on possibly getting Marcus Thuram in the January transfer window.

It appears the French striker is someone viewed by Manchester United to take the place of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was terminated after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan before the World Cup 2022.

Thuram is someone that has captured the eye of Erik ten Hag, someone who will also be available at a bargain fee.

The 25-year-old left winger is entering the final six months of his deal with Borussia Monchengladbach, and the January transfer window may be the only chance for the German team to get something in return for the French footballer.

The outlet reveals that Die Fohien is seeking at least £10 million ($12 million) in January, a price that is undeniably a steal.

Hence, it all boils down to who between Manchester United and Arsenal can strike a deal first with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Thuram was in action for France in the World Cup 2022 although he played only a total of 146 minutes in the entire tournament.

He saw action in the finals where he contributed two assists, one of which was in the sequence that allowed Kylian Mbappe to register his second goal.

Arsenal and Manchester United are expected to cram for a striker next month.

On the part of the Gunners, they are looking for someone to fill in the void left by Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus went down with a knee injury and is expected to be out for at least three months.

Aside from Arsenal and Manchester United, other teams who have been linked to Thuram include Tottenham and Aston Villa.

Of the teams mentioned, the Hotspurs are reportedly keeping a close watch on the status of Thuram ahead of his final months with Die Fohien.

Thuram is enjoying the best season of his career, having already scored in double figures in goals in the Bundesliga.

He is also a win away from his best tally across all competitions as previously reported here on the International Business Times.
