  • Brendan Rodgers claims rumors linking him to Manchester United is disrespectful to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer
  • The Leicester City manager is said to be at the top of the Red Devils' managerial wish list
  • Ajax's Erik ten Hag is also on the list, but Rodgers is the preferred candidate

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has finally responded to the rumors of him becoming the one to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the Manchester United sidelines.

“Firstly, it’s really disrespectful for you to ask the question when there is a manager in place at the club [Manchester United]. Secondly, I can’t comment on it because it’s not real. I’m proud to be here at Leicester City," Rodgers bluntly remarked via the Manchester Evening News.

"The only thing I’m thinking about is [facing] Chelsea and getting ready for that. It’s frustrating for supporters and my players, but from a personal perspective, it’s something that it’s in the modern game, but something I have no focus on whatsoever."

The 48-year-old Irish manager of the Foxes became Manchester United fans’ ideal manager to replace Solskjaer as they believe that enough is enough and that it is time for a change.

It was reported by Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News that Rodgers is at the top of the wish list of Red Devils officials, while other notable managers such as Ajax’s Erik ten Hag and Spanish national team coach Luis Enrique.

The outlet noted that the move to replace Solskjaer comes after the club’s disappointing defeats at the hands of eternal rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

As it stands, Rodgers is believed to have a release clause that Manchester United can pony up the cash for, making their confidence in stealing Rodgers away from Leicester City all the more probable.

It is unsurprising that they are continuing to pursue Rodgers because his coaching style and philosophy of consistent pressure, attack-heavy football would be perfect for a Manchester United squad that has a ton of talent across the board.

As for ten Hag leaving Ajax to replace Solskjaer, the 51-year-old Dutch manager is content with where he is at currently and is choosing to commit to Ajax until the end of the season at least.

Rodgers is currently under contract with Leicester City until June 2023, and the only way that Manchester United is able to poach him is by paying his rumored release clause if they are truly done with the Solskjaer experience at Old Trafford.
