Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden was arrested over the weekend on domestic violence charges.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed with Page Six that Madden was taken into custody on Saturday (June 27) and charged under penal code 273.5(a). It means the bassist was arrested for willfully inflicting a “traumatic” injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

Madden was released from custody after posting bail at $50,000. If found guilty, the bassist could go behind bars for six years, according to Metro.

Madden is unmarried, and the identity of his alleged victim has not been made public so far.

The band issued a statement as soon as Madden was released from custody. A spokesperson for Maroon 5 noted that the whole band is “devastated” after hearing such disappointing news. However, the mediator insisted that they are looking at this matter quite “seriously.”

“We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news. As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously. For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through,” Page Six quoted the band’s spokesperson, as saying.

This is not the first time Madden has been taken into custody by law enforcement authorities. The bassist was arrested in 2016 on cocaine charges in New York.

At the time, police explained that Madden passed a bottle of cocaine to producer James Gubelmann outside a bar in New York. Madden’s lawyers denied all the charges against his client and said that Madden was “purely innocent.”

“(Madden) was purely innocent. He didn't possess any narcotics. The individual he was with did but he didn't,” the lawyer told The New York Daily News at the time.

According to the publication, Madden was granted conditional dismissal of all the charges. He agreed to complete just one day of community service in exchange for his freedom and a clean record.

Madden has been one of the most prominent members of Maroon 5. The band, which consists of Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, James Valentine, Matt Flynn, PJ Morton, and Madden, has given many hit songs over the years. Madden has been associated with the band since 1994, making him one of the founding members of the popular musical group.
