The “Married at First Sight” reunion is a time for confrontation. In the Season 8 finale, Kate and Luke chose to divorce, and the reunion revealed more drama for the couple. The couple reunited three months later to dish out the details that weren’t on camera, and Kate even revealed that she believes Luke is gay.

Is Luke Gay?

Kate and Luke reunite to talk to host Kevin Frasier at the “Married at First Sight” reunion. They recall their wedding day, and Luke claims he was attracted to Kate. However, she says that he can be honest. Luke says he had figured out who his bride would be before the wedding, and he was disappointed.

Kevin asks why Luke had sex with someone he wasn’t attracted to, and that’s when Luke decides to go through their history. After a dinner on the honeymoon, Luke claims that Kate was turned on and couldn’t sleep without sex.

Kate refutes that story. She says they were in bed cuddling, which Luke initiated, and Luke was only wearing his underwear. She says they talked about it for a few minutes before she directly asked if he wanted to have sex and he said yes. He got a condom and they had sex.

He was acting distant after, and she asked if he was OK. That’s when he said he felt “repulsed” and “dead inside.” Apparently, that wasn’t something he said after they kissed (which was what they claimed while filming) but something he said right after they consummated their marriage.

After that reaction, Kate told Luke they needed to talk. According to Kate, Luke’s immediate reaction was to ask, “Do you think that I’m a homosexual?”

Luke then claims that Kate pulled up a list on her phone of reasons that he might be gay. Kate tries to refute that, but Kevin lets Luke speak first. Luke claims she was watching him for hours and then starting “coming after my manhood.” Kate disagrees. “He’s lying,” she says.

Kate says she didn’t bring up the list of reasons Luke might be gay until he brought up the subject of his sexuality. “Your Facebook page said interested in men and women and it still says to this day that you’re in a relationship with a man,” she says.

Kevin asks Kate about the list. Kate says she was just taking notes and she wanted to ask Luke if he was gay but felt it was “inappropriate.” She waited for him to bring it up.

Luke says he changed his Facebook after Kate brought it up. It was a joke with friends in college, over a decade ago. Kevin asks Luke if he has dated men before, and Luke says no. “I don’t believe it,” Kate says. Kate apparently believes Luke is gay despite his denial.

Kate doesn’t understand how having that on his Facebook could be funny, especially when he has so many gay friends. It seems more like mocking if he isn’t actually gay. Luke insists that it’s because he was a dumb 18-year-old who apparently didn’t change his profile preferences for 13 or 14 years.

They go back to the topic of their sex life. Luke says he was just doing it to make his wife happy while Kate recalls that he was the one who initiated sex several times.

Why Were They Having Sex?

Luke didn’t want their sex life to be on TV. Kate says she had to talk to Dr. Pepper Schwartz, one of the “Married at First Sight” experts, because Luke was acting “weird” in her opinion. Luke, meanwhile, says he was sad and sometimes crying after sex. “I was upset that I was having sex and I didn’t want to have sex,” Luke admits.

Kate suggests they just talk about their marriage in general. Luke says that he had feelings for Kate about a month into the relationship, which surprises her. He even claims she has beautiful eyes and was a pretty bride. “I don’t believe anything that you say because you’re always changing your words and it would mess with my mind for the entire marriage. And it drove me crazy and it wasn’t fair,” Kate says.

Kate says Luke should think about how he treated her. Luke says he accepts that he didn’t treat her wonderfully, but he doesn’t feel he was treated well either. Kate, however, thinks she deserves an apology. Luke apologizes to her and says watching it back is painful because she’s so obviously unhappy in the marriage.

Kevin asks why Luke didn’t treat her better and he tries to dodge the question, but Kate poses the question again. Luke says he thought he was coming off a certain way and didn’t realize how his actions were being perceived. The host calls Luke out for giving a non-answer and says these pre-formulated answers don’t make him look good on TV. Luke says that’s fine and accuses Kevin of “winning,” which causes Kate to burst out laughing because there’s nothing to win.

What Happened After Decision Day?

They’ve been in touch since decision day. Luke claims Kate invited herself over the day after while Kate says Luke invited her over. It was Halloween night, Kate had been drinking and Luke apparently put her to bed. They’re definitely getting divorced, though.

Kate says she feels more like herself now. She was able to focus more on work after the marriage ended and she got promoted recently.

Luke acknowledges that she is much happier now than she ever was with him. Kate admits that she’s in a happy relationship now. She has been dating a guy for a couple of months, and they’re taking things slow. Luke isn’t dating again yet.

What Do The Other Couples Think?

Later, they reunite with all the other couples to talk about what happened. Jasmine calls Luke and Kate’s marriage “very painful to watch,” and Stephanie notes that Kate was clearly in pain. Steph said the relationship should’ve ended sooner.

Frazier asks Kate if she feels like Luke just wanted to be on TV. “Yes, I do,” she said.

The couples say they didn’t know how bad the relationship was, and no one encouraged Kate to leave him. “I feel like he was playing a game of mental warfare,” AJ says.

Luke says he is “embarrassed” by his behavior and apologizes again. He says he really does want her to be happy, and they share an awkward hug. Kate says she has closure now.

“Married at First Sight” will return for Season 9. No premiere date has been revealed yet.
