Following the announcement that “Marvel Heroes” will be shut down this December, players are now asking for refunds for the purchases they made in-game. The demand for refunds came after Gazillion Entertainment removed real-money purchases from the game ahead its demise.

Developer Gazillion recently announced that it is shutting down its “Marvel Heroes” servers after losing its contract with Marvel. In an attempt to keep its players happy in the final days of the online game, the company decided to remove in-game purchases. However, this just contributed to the fury of console players who spent cash into the game.

Apart from being irritated with the fact that the servers are shutting down, some console players are mad that they invested real money to purchase their favorite characters, add-ons and costumes, and they’ll only enjoy using them in a few months. It can be noted that though the free-to-play game was released on PC in 2013, it did not arrive to Xbox One and PS4 consoles until early this year, as pointed out by Kotaku.

In “Marvel Heroes,” players have free access to a few characters. Many other heroes are only accessible if the player purchases each character for $5 and up. There are money-saving bundles, too, that start at $20. Aside from certain heroes, players may also spend on some add-ons and costumes for their characters.

Many console players have since demanded for refunds for the characters and items they bought in-game. For instance, Kotaku has learned that one player that goes by EITTurtle spent $400 in microtransactions just to have access to Spider Man, Storm and Captain America, among others. Given the amount he spent on the game’s heroes, it is not surprising why this player is asking for a refund.

For some, their request for refund was quickly accepted. Reddit user dusk22 shared that after contacting Xbox support, he was able to get refunds for AoA, Black Bolt and Loki packs. He even stated that the support rep was really nice. “The chat agent told me they where going to look it up. They read about the shut down and was surprised and wondered what happened. Then she instantly refunded those purchases back to my credit card.”

Another “Marvel Heroes” player with the handle ThereWillBeNic confirmed that Xbox is doing refunds for in-game purchases. “I’ve talked to 3 different people and I got a full refund for $400+ that I spent on the game since console launch … You can get everything you’ve spent back. It will take 24-72 hours depending on your bank/credit cards policy for refunds to it.”

On Wednesday, Gazillion Entertainment issued a statement announcing that it is shutting down “Marvel Heroes.” “The ‘Marvel Heroes’ servers will stay on until Dec 31, 2017, and we’ll be removing real money purchases as soon as possible. Players will be able to play the game entirely for free once this sunset period commences. We will share the exact date things go completely free as soon as we can,” the company wrote.

Gazillion also thanked everyone who supported the game. “We’ve had the privilege of entertaining and collaborating with our players for over four years. We’re extremely humbled by that privilege and wanted to get this message out: Thank you. Thank you to our players, our tireless employees, and everyone involved in the life of ‘Marvel Heroes,’ ‘Marvel Heroes 2015,’ ‘Marvel Heroes 2016,’ and ‘Marvel Heroes Omega.’”
