Police arrested a 17-year-old for hiding an explosive in a mailbox in Rockville, Maryland.

According to NBC Washington, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jason Blake reported the arrest of a teenaged boy on Tuesday for possessing and using a destructive device.

Investigators are still unsure about the boy’s motives for putting the explosive in the mailbox.

Authorities believe that the suspect might be responsible for other crimes in the neighborhood including destruction of property since November.

On Monday, the owner of a home on 12000 Newgate Road in the Glen Park neighborhood called the police to report the discovery of an explosive in his mailbox.

A bomb root squad robot retrieved the explosive device, disassembled it and identified it as a large firework adapted firework, the report said.

Multiple incidents were reported over the weekend and police believe that more people are involved.
