Tiger Woods begins the defense of his Masters' championship Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club, 19 months after winning his fifth green jacket. The greatest golfer of his generation pulled off a historic victory last year, but he’s not expected to repeat the feat this time.

The 44-year-old is neither the betting favorite to win the 2020 Masters, nor is he particularly close. DraftKings Sportsbook gives Woods 45/1 odds to win the championship, putting him behind 16 other participants.

Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson are the co-favorite with 9/1 odds. Jon Rahm (11/1), Justin Thomas (13/1), Rory McIlroy (14/1) Xander Schauffele (16/1) are all given a good chance to compete for the major championship.

Twelve golfers have 30/1 odds or better to win the 2020 Masters. Even FanDuel Sportsbook, which gives Woods a better chance than DraftKings, lists his odds at 40/1.

Entering the 2019 Masters, Woods was considered much less of a long shot. Woods had 14/1 odds, giving him the fourth-best odds in the entire field.

Since the PGA Tour resumed play following a three-month break because of the coronavirus pandemic, Woods hasn’t come close to a first-place finish. In six tournaments during that span, Woods’ best performance was landing in 37th place at the PGA Championship in August. Woods came in 72nd place at the ZOZO Championship just a few weeks ago.

Woods won the ZOZO Championship in October 2019. It was his only tournament win since the 2019 Masters.

Prior to the 2019 Masters, Woods hadn’t won any major tournament in 12 years. His last two Masters victories were separated by 14 years.

In five majors since the Masters, Woods hasn’t finished better than 21st place. He missed the cut in three of those tournaments.

No one has won back-to-back Masters since Woods did it in 2001 and 2002.
