Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Update: Peter Sarsgaard Is Not Playing Two-Face

Peter Sarsgaard’s character in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” is not Harvey Dent a.k.a Two-Face.

Initially, many thought that Two-Face would be featured in the upcoming “The Batman” movie. The theory started when Reeves announced the casting of Peter Sarsgaard on Twitter.

The director did not disclose which character he would be playing. However, in his tweet, Reeves shared a GIF of Sarsgaard. Fans immediately noticed the face of a woman in the background, and this sparked rumors that he could be playing the character of Two-Face in the movie.

Moreover, there were claims that he would be playing a district attorney. Dent is a Gotham DA in the comic books.

In January, Warner Brothers confirmed Sarsgaard’s role as Gotham DA Gil Colson and not Dent or Two-Face. Colson is an original character created by Reeves to fulfill his vision of the new “Batman” movie. The announcement invalidated the theory suggesting that Sarsgaard could portray Two-Face.

However, according to a report, Reeves could develop Colson as an alternate version of Two-Face. It's possible that he just changed Two-Face's original name because he is creating his own “Batman” version. Reeves also changed The Riddler’s real name in the movie.

But if ever Two-Face won't be featured in the film, it's possible that Reeves just wanted to avoid overloading the film with too many villains. The Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman are all confirmed to appear in the movie.

Also, Sarsgaard has spoken about his character in “The Batman” when he appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” According to the actor, his character lies a lot and is a “pretty distasteful person.”

“I’m a district attorney, and I’m basically a politician that has trouble telling the truth.”

Jeffrey Wright is also joining Sarsgaard and Robert Pattinson in the superhero movie. According to him, “The Batman” is the “next evolution of Gotham” and they are putting their own spin on it.

Wright will be playing Police Commissioner James Gordon in the movie. Just like in other movies, he said they are working together to create a mood, idea, setting, and tone.

“This is the next evolution of Gotham. So I am working off the stage [director] Matt [Reeves] is providing and also working off what [star] Robert [Pattinson] is doing. We are trying to create something together that is our own, but is also Batman,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pattinson revealed earlier that he stopped working out amid the lockdown. The “Twilight” star, who is set to play the Dark Knight, received backlash from fans because of this and some even called him “lazy.”
