Even though there were no grand prize winners following the latest drawing, several players managed to become instant millionaires.

Four players from Florida, Georgia, Indiana, and New York hit the Match 5 and won $1 million each. If the player would have matched the five numbers and purchased the Megaplier, they would have won $3 million apiece.

Aside from the instant millionaires, there were several other smaller wins that resulted from the night. Thirty-four players hit the Match 4 plus the gold Mega Ball putting their winnings at $10,000. Meanwhile, 11 players hit the Match 4 plus the gold Mega Ball with a 3X Megaplier purchase, winning $30,000.

The other Mega Millions wins from the evening ranged between $2 and $1,500.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be worth an estimated $278 million with a cash option of $193 million. The numbers will be drawn on Friday, Jan. 7.

The latest drawing comes as the jackpot surpassed a quarter of a billion dollars. The third-largest jackpot in lottery history was won on Jan. 22, 2021. At the time, the Mega Millions jackpot was worth an estimated $1.05 billion.

The winning ticket was claimed by a group of four from Michigan. After taxes, the winners received around $557 million.

Lottery winners can choose to receive their winnings through a one-time lump sum payment or an annuity. Those who select the annuity receive one immediate payment that is followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% every year.

Mega Millions can be played in 45 states as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
