Meghan Markle married Prince Harry over a year ago and is still adjusting to her new life in the palace. However, the former “Suits” star has been reportedly criticized for making the same choices as Prince William, Kate Middleton and other members of the royal family.

The Duchess of Sussex has continuously come under fire for making decisions that go against royal traditions. Although her modern approach has rubbed some people the wrong way, a new report has accused the public of targeting the 38-year-old for “simply being Meghan Markle.”

In an article for the Mirror, sports reporter, Darren Lewis claimed Meghan has been attacked over every major and minor decision she has made. “The woman can barely breathe without being taken down for a supposed lack of class or consideration, or accused of having ulterior motives,” he wrote.

In the past, Meghan and Prince Harry have received backlash over trying to keep details about baby, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor private. While Lewis admitted to understanding the public’s frustration with the couple, he claimed Meghan gets a majority of the backlash.

“She and Prince Harry can’t politely decline an invitation to visit the Queen at Balmoral – it has to be seen as a snub. Meghan can’t jump on a plane to support her friend, Serena Williams in the US Open Final – it has to be seen as a rejection of her duties as a mother,” he stated.

“What father, this one included, can’t be alone with the kids while his wife has some much-needed time to herself?”

Lewis noted the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge weren’t slammed over leaving Prince George in the UK to tour the Maldives five years ago.

The sports reporter warned naysayers that they are beginning to offend Meghan’s fans. Meghan’s critics “do not like her, and that’s fine, but they have their heads in the sand if they refuse to accept that the rest of us see it for what it is – a witch-hunt.”

The writer went on to recall similar decisions made by Kate and Prince Charles that were never criticized for. “Didn’t Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, guest edit the Huffington Post website?” Lewis pondered.

“Meghan can’t guest edit Vogue. It is seen as getting above her station. Yet, didn’t Prince Charles edit Country Life?”

Prince Harry and Meghan are expected to embark on their first royal tour with baby Archie in the fall. Fans and naysayers will have to wait to see if the trip will help or hurt the Duchess of Sussex’s public image.
