  • Meghan Markle's influence in fashion significantly dropped after royal exit
  • Kate Middleton's "Kate Effect" stronger after Meghan Markle's exit
  • Prince William and Kate Middleton were accused of snubbing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle's “Meghan Effect” dropped compared to Kate Middleton's after she announced royal exit.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex are often compared for their fashion choices. Both look gorgeous in their choice of wardrobe and whatever they choose to wear tend to sell out. Markle’s “Meghan Effect” has overshadowed Middleton’s “Kate Effect” in the past two years, but that ended when the former decided to leave the royal family, Express reported.

Markle’s style influence dropped from a whopping 216% from 2017 to 2019 to just 31% in 2020. Prince Harry’s wife apparently lost her impact to the buyers after she announced that she was leaving the Firm.

Meanwhile, Middleton has held on to her influence and even increased it from 119% to 159% in 2020. According to fashion experts, the Brits may be less inclined to Markle’s wardrobe after she announced that she would leave the U.K. with Prince Harry and son Archie.

The publication noted that when Markle wore a dress by Safiyaa on Saturday when she visited the Royal Albert Hall, the uptick was only 38%. When she wore the same brand in Fiji in 2018, searches for Safiyaa gowns reached as high as 223%.

On Jan. 22, Middleton wore a Massimo Dutti. Markle shared photos of her wearing the same brand on Instagram, but more searched for the Duchess of Cambridge’s dress.

Middleton’s fashion has been praised especially when she and Prince William visited Pakistan. According to style expert Andrea Levin, the duchess was pressured, but she knew how to handle it well.

“No one has more pressure on them when it comes to what they wear than Kate Middleton,” Levin said.

“She is the future Queen after all. Yet, she pulls it off easily. She always looks perfectly tailored, she always looks elegant and appropriate. It always looks like there’s a sense of purpose and forethought into everything she wears.”

Meanwhile, Middleton and Markle made a reunion on Monday when they joined the royal family for the Commonwealth service. However, the Cambridges were accused of snubbing the Sussexes because they barely acknowledged them.
