Meghan Markle enjoyed a Christmas privilege from Queen Elizabeth II that Kate Middleton didn’t.

Channel 5 documentary “Sandringham: The Queen at Christmas” took a look at the royal family’s Christmas celebration. The narrator explained that Markle was the “first non-royal to appear on the Christmas guest-list.”

Normally, only royals and their wives and husbands are invited to the Queen’s guest list for Christmas. However, Prince Harry was allowed to invite Markle, making her the first royal fiancée to join the Queen for the holiday season.

The narrator said that Markle spending Christmas at Sandringham with Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the members of the royal family was “exceptional.” It was also taken as a sign that “the monarchy is changing and modernizing.“

Unlike Markle, Middleton didn’t join the royals for Christmas before she was married to Prince William. However, it is believed that Markle was allowed because she had no family n London.

“Before they were married, Kate didn’t spend Christmas at Sandringham. But then, Kate has a big and very warm family of her own,” royal expert Ingrid Seward.

Meanwhile, an insider said that the Queen allowed Markle to spend Christmas with them because Prince Harry made the request and she cannot say “no” to her grandson.

"If Harry asks for something, the Queen would say yes as she adores him," a royal family told People.

Meanwhile, the palace announced earlier that Prince Harry and Markle will not be spending Christmas this time with the royals. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly wanted to make their son Archie’s first Christmas memorable, so they will spending it together with Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland.

However, not everyone was happy with the couple’s choice. Sir Rod Stewart said that Prince Harry and Markle were being inconsiderate of Queen Elizabeth II’s age. He reminded them that the monarch is already 93 and he, himself, travel just to spend the season with his parents because he knew they don’t have many Christmases left.
