Meghan Markle’s Christmas card with Prince Harry was compared to her engagement snap with ex-husband Trevor Engelson.

Last week, Kensington Palace released the royals’ official holiday cards. Prince Harry and Markle’s photo appeared romantic and intimate. However, some fans found a striking resemblance between the said snap and Markle’s engagement photo with her ex-husband. One netizen even described it “spooky.”

"The similarity between Meghan’s wedding invite with Trevor and the Christmas card with Harry is spooky......To do the same idea with each husband is so weird to say the least #royalchristmascards #MeghanMarkle," the netizen wrote on Twitter.

Carly Read, a journalist for Express, pointed out that both photos are black and white. In both snaps, Markle and her partner had their backs to the camera. In addition, they had their arms around each other. The only difference aside from the two gentlemen is the setting.

Prince Harry and Markle were in Frogmore watching the fireworks following their royal wedding. On the other hand, Markle and Engelson were seated on a beach. Markle and Engelson’s snap is accompanied with a caption that includes their wedding date and venue. Markle and Engelson had a beach wedding in Jamaica in 2011.

Although Prince Harry and Markle’s Christmas card was romantic, not many were impressed with it. In fact, some find it insulting and inappropriate.

“I have to say that if I got a Christmas card from Harry and Meghan (yeah like that would happen) I would be insulted that they had turned their backs to me,” Shirley Wainwright wrote on social media

Another fan criticized the black and white effect. The lack of vibrant colors reduced the lively event into something similar to a war zone because of the white smoke.

“Not that my opinion matters but I’m not entirely sure about Harry & Meghan’s Christmas card image ... it looks like they are overseeing a war zone rather than fireworks! Should have been in colour,” the critic wrote.

Meanwhile, body language expert Judi James compared Prince Harry and Markle’s Christmas photo to that of an advertisement for a “James Bond” photo.

Meanwhile, Prince William and Middleton opted for an autumn vibrant effect in their Christmas card.

The royal family’s Christmas cards are believed to have undergone a slight digital retouching. Creative retoucher Terry Obiora explained that nothing is wrong with a “subtle” retouch because everyone is now using a filter.
