Late Tuesday, Melania Trump used her personal Twitter account to “like” a tweet suggesting she and her husband President Donald Trump have a cold relationship. Trump’s bond with his wife has been a topic of gossip since his inauguration and several social media users have said the couple lacks warmth in their relationship.

The tweet the Melania “liked” had a short video showing the president turning back to look at his wife during Inauguration Day and her responding with a brief smile which disappeared once Trump looked away. The tweet also mocked Trump's lack of success in getting funding for building the Mexico border wall: “Seems the only #Wall @realDonaldTrump's built is the one between him and @FLOTUS #Melania #trump”

This was the first activity on Melania’s personal Twitter account since Election Day. However, the account “unliked” the tweet some time later.

Since Trump’s swearing-in ceremony in January, body language experts have scrutinized the couple’s relationship. During the ceremony, the president came under the scanner for not holding Melania’s hand and leaving her behind while getting out of the car to greet the Obamas. According to Patti Wood, a body language expert, Trump’s reluctance to hold his wife’s hand could be because he may have wanted to be seen as a “presidential alpha.”

“Typically a hand-hold shows a couple as a unit,” Wood said. “But to me, I think he's been saying, ‘I want to be seen as the president on my own’, which is very much alpha. ‘I want to be just the powerful me.’ And it's clear that that's his choice,” she told the Independent in February.

In March, Us Weekly magazine reported that Trump and Melania were having troubles in their relationship and that they slept in separate beds, refusing to "spend the night together — ever."

The magazine claimed the first lady felt "miserable" in her new role alongside her husband. However, Melania’s representatives rubbished the claims and told the magazine: "It’s unfortunate that you are going to feature unnamed 'sources' that have provided fictional accounts."

The couple’s close friend, Karen LeFrak also denied claims of the two having problems in their marriage since Trump assumed office. In an interview with Washington Post, LeFrak, who is the wife of developer Richard LeFrak, said Trump and Melania were happy together and that the couple was not dealing any problems in their love life.

“Mrs. Trump is enjoying her life and new role,” Karen said, when asked how Melania was adjusting to her new role as first lady.

She added: “[She and her husband] are very happy! Their relationship is great. All these rabid rumors about her and their relationship are laughable and fictional.”

Despite this, lifestyle and etiquette expert Elaine Swann previously told the Independent: “He still is a husband first before a president. Because he’s in the presence of a woman, and this woman is his spouse, he still has to make sure that he’s nurturing his relationship. And part of nurturing your relationship is the small gestures and niceties that are necessary in terms of chivalry.”
