Melania Trump was born and raised in Slovenia. After residing there for over 20 years, the FLOTUS moved to the United States in 1996.

Some of her childhood friends shed light on what the first lady was like before she married President Donald Trump.

While speaking with BBC News, Jerca Santej, one of Melania’s childhood friends, said that the FLOTUS was around 16 years old when she first thought about what she would do when she grows up.

Initially, the first lady tried her luck in being a designer.

“She had a straight idea and that’s unbelievable for such a young girl, so I know that she will make something special,” she said.

Nina Bedek, another childhood friend, described the FLOTUS as someone who was always very humble. Even though she had the looks of a model, Melania reportedly never spoke about wanting to be one. However, the first lady was always aware that she wanted to be a part of the fashion industry.

“I always knew our town was too small for her, Melania would look forward to seeing the fashion magazine’s her mother would bring home and I knew she wanted to see the world,” Bedek said.

Meanwhile, author Doug Wead previously shed light on what the FLOTUS’s life was like while she was growing up in Slovenia. In his book “Inside Trump’s White House,” he said that Melania’s hometown of Ljubljana had its own unique sets of cultures and traditions.

Since the first lady’s hometown was considered a totalitarian state, neighbors oftentimes spied on each other. Each block also had its own political monitor. Wead said that these are just some of the things that might have prepared the first lady for her life at the White House.

After moving to the United States, Melania reportedly realized that this is where her dreams could come true. Shortly after relocating, Melania met President Trump at a party, and they hit it off immediately.

In 2005, the couple tied the knot. And just one year later, they had a child together.
