It is one of the most exclusive events of the year, but even celebrities can't guarantee an invitation to the Met Gala.

The exclusive event, which takes place every year and is hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour is only open to invited guests, and even some of Hollywood’s elite can be snubbed when it comes to being extended an invite. This year, the “Rei Kawakubo/Comme Des Garcons’ event will have an even tighter list of celebrity guests, according to Page Six.

Sources close to the event told the site that the 2017 event was slimmed down from the 610 attendees who were at 2016’s “Manus x Machina” event, to make it more “intimate and private,” though it was also noted that the size of the guest list is often reflected through the event’s theme.

“The party has shifted in size over the years according to the theme….for the ‘Punk’ theme [in 2013] it was a slightly larger, more rambunctious crowd,” the source said.

A tighter guest list could mean some of the high profile stars who grace the event with their presence may have found themselves without an invitation this year. While big names like Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga and more are likely still invited (it is unclear if they will actually attend), one celebrity who didn’t make the cut, despite being invited for several years running was supermodel Coco Rocha, who said she has no idea why she wasn’t invited to this year’s event.

“I don’t know,” she said. “You’ll have to ask Anna that.”

Guaranteed to be on this year’s list are 2017 co-chairs Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Tom Brady and Giselle Bünduchen, and The Hollywood Reporter reports that Brie Larson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Frances Bean Cobain, Courtney Love, Bella and Gigi Hadid, Chrissy Teigen, Dakota Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Lorde, Hailey Baldwin, Paris Jackson, Ruth Negga, Sarah Paulson, Zendaya and Zoe Kravitz will all be in attendance this year. In addition to them, Celine Dion and Mandy Moore will also be at the event, though they will not wear designs by Comme des Garcons.

Kate Hudson will also be present at the event after confirming her attendance on Instagram, while Rihanna and Reese Witherspoon also seemed to hint they would be there with throwback posts on their accounts to years prior.

It will be interesting to see what the guests all wear as the 2017 theme is designer-centric, honoring Kawakubo and her Comme des Garcons brand. While Perry and Williams are expected to wear CDG, most other celebs will likely wear other designers, meaning the interpretations on the theme could be interesting. Kawakubo is also the first living designer to be the sole subject of the event since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.

As for the cost of attending the event, tables go for about $275,000, and designers and brands usually pay out that price in order to showcase their favorite celebrity guests at the event. However, nothing is official until Wintour gives it the okay, meaning a designer or celebrity can still get the boot.

And while the general public won’t be able to attend the closed event, they can still see some of the action on the Red Carpet by utilizing Livestream services online and through official social media accounts, or by tuning in to E! for coverage from the Red Carpet.
