Michael Jackson has topped Forbes Magazine's annual list of top-earning dead celebrities.

From October 2012 to October 2011, the late King of Pop's estate earned an estimated $170 million from music sales and his ties to Sony/ATV, according to the magazine.

Jackson, who died in 2009, is also the second highest-earning pop act of the year (dead or alive), after U2, according to Forbes.

In September, the trial of Conrad Murray, Jackson's doctor, began in Los Angeles court. Murray pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter. The trial is still underway.

Also on Forbes' top-earning dead celebrities list is Elvis, whose estate earned $55 million. According to Forbes, most of that revenue came from the Cirque du Soleil show, Viva Elvis, which is still running in Las Vegas.

Marilyn Monroe, Charles Schulz and John Lennon round out the top five.
