Chip will partially learn the truth about his parentage in next week’s installment of “The Mick.”

According to the synopsis for Season 2, episode 9 of the Fox comedy, Chip (Thomas Barbusca) finally realizes that Christopher Pemberton (Laird MacIntosh) is not his real dad. After discovering that he is the product of an affair his mother Poodle Pemberton (Tricia O’Kelley) had a long time ago, Chip decides to seek out his biological father.

In the trailer for the episode, Mickey (Kaitlin Olson), Sabrina (Sofia Black-D’Elia), and Chip visit Christopher and Poodle in prison, where the couple appear to have revealed the truth. The revelation shakes Chip to his very core, causing him to pass out.

Christopher actually told Chip that he’s not his real father in Season 2, episode 3, but Chip just shrugged it off and thought that Christopher was not being himself because of what he’s going through behind bars.

Poodle first revealed to Christopher that Chip is not his son in the Season 1 finale. “I love that it was just a little thing that was dropped,” Olson, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, said of the big revelation in an interview with TVLine last September. “I love it, and I think it’s hilarious — mainly because Chip identifies as a Pemberton more than anyone. And he loves his daddy, even though he won’t call or check in on him.”

At the time of the interview, Olson said that they had not decided yet on who would be Chip’s real dad. “It’s going to be a big through line of this season,” said Olson. “We’re not even halfway through our second season, so we haven’t figured everything out, but we’re kicking around ideas about who his actual father could be. It’ll be a really fun story to execute.”

Elsewhere in next week’s episode, Mickey and Jimmy (Scott MacArthur) re-examine their relationship after the latter found out that the woman he loves was the one who ruined his chances at becoming a professional baseball player.

“The Mick” Season 2, episode 9, titled “The Divorce,” airs on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
