Mickey (Kaitlin Olson), Alba (Carla Jimenez), Jimmy (Scott MacArthur) and the Pemberton kids are going to have some serious money problems in Season 2 of “The Mick.”

After the Pemberton mansion went up in flames at the end of the Season 1 finale of the Fox series, Mickey takes Sabrina (Sofia Black-D’Elia), Chip (Thomas Barbusca) and Ben (Jack Stanton) to a five-star hotel. But after using up all the remaining money they have, Mickey and the kids are forced to figure out how to get by.

“We’re just trying to survive this season,” Jimenez told TV Guide of what fans can expect from the family next season. “We’re trying to figure out what we need to do. We don’t know where the money’s going to come from.”

While the characters no longer have the mansion in Season 2, Olson assured viewers that the next episodes will still be enjoyable to watch. “We’re tossing a bunch of stuff around. It’s gonna be fun,” Olson told KPTV.com last July. “I think they’re gonna bounce around and try to figure out where to live. [In the Season 1 finale,]Mickey finally gets a million dollars and then it just all burns up. So they’re right back where they started, but now they really have to come together because they don’t have the house to rely on.”

Meanwhile, during a panel at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour earlier this month, series creators John and Dave Chernin revealed that “The Mick” will continue to tackle issues of diversity in Season 2, having featured a gender identity storyline last season.

“I think we try to do it without taking too strong a stance on anything,” John said (via Deadline). “With the gender identity issue, it’s easy for us to just lean into, ‘be yourself and be what you want to be like.’”

Dave added that the show will also continue to explore the contrasting levels of privilege experienced by Mickey and the kids. “There are a lot of ups and downs this season,” Dave teased. “The show works so well when we juxtapose those two cultures.”

“The Mick” Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
