Viewers had a strong reaction to Miley Cyrus’ performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sunday night. The former Disney star seems to have been on a mission to prove to her fans and the world that she’s no longer a little girl, but during the event she did much more than just show how she had matured.

Cyrus is a fan of the new dance craze twerking, so it wasn’t a surprise when she began to gyrate on the stage, but it certainly made plenty of people feel uncomfortable. At one point, the cameras panned to rapper Drake while she was singing, and he was looking at the ground.

The starlet famously cut off her long locks in favor of a short, edgy cut several months ago, but on Sunday her hair was plastered into two minibuns, which was referred to as a “beardo.”

She took the stage in a one-piece outfit and left it in a skimpy flesh-toned two-piece. While she was performing with “Blurred Lines” star Robin Thicke, she sensually danced around him and then began to twerk on his unmentionable area.

Twitter was abuzz about the performance and began to write posts and share memes about Cyrus. In one of them, there’s a before shot, which shows the young singer when she still had her long hair, and an after shot, which showed her with the “beardo.”

A few more popular ones supposedly showed pictures of the audience during her performances. There’s even one with Will Smith and his family -- they all look like they are shocked.

Another popular image shows Naomi Grossman as her character Pepper from “American Horror Story”: On the bottom, it says, “Miley Cyrus at the VMAs next year.”
