Miley Cyrus is a vocal advocate of women’s rights, so the “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker was not pleased to hear President Donald Trump’s decision to reinstate the global gag rule. Liam Hemsworth’s girlfriend gave her two cents on Trump’s move via social media, but she received a lot of hate from people claiming her ideas and what she’s spreading to her fans are erroneous.

On Thursday, Cyrus took to Instagram to share an article about how different Trump’s approach with the global gag rule is compared to previous reinstatements. The article mentions how the new president of America restricted the access to reproductive health care as part of his first actions in office.

For Cyrus, this is “extremely devastating” and “dangerous.” The singer stated that studies have established the increase in abortion rate as a result of the global gag rule that limits contraceptives. The “Hannah Montana” actress also pointed out that the lack of funds also entail “unsafe” and “unsanitary” abortions.

The global gag rule or Mexico City policy is a policy that enables U.S. presidents to regulate or eliminate abortions by U.S. funded health care providers abroad. The original rule that was made by the late Ronald Reagan primarily involved family planning support to those who pledge not to perform or promote abortion as a form of family planning. Organizations that recommend or even just mention abortions to their clients were completely cut off from receiving support from the U.S. government, as explained by Vox.

The rule previously covered family planning organizations only. However, Trump is determined to expand the policy to all global health organizations in his reinstatement. This means all health care institutions that receive funding from the U.S. government are in danger of suffering financial losses should they recommend or simply mention abortion to their clients.

Upon knowing about Cyrus’ stand on the issue, many people slammed the singer and pointed out what she missed about the bigger picture. One wrote: “He’s reallocating the funds that go towards Planned Parenthood and aiming them towards more comprehensive health care services … He’s just trying to cut back on federal spending.” Another chimed in: “It’s about time we start taking care of our own people. Why were we funding them anyways?”

Others also pointed out the flaws in Cyrus’ post. One remarked: “You are incorrect with your information, Miley. Please stop with inflammatory rhetoric. It helps no one.” Another commented: “This is a fake article … Quit misinforming our youth.”
