A scam has stolen millions of dollars from an Orthodox rabbi, according to the New York Times.

Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto's followers are alleging the source of his woes and have told the feds that it was part of an embezzlement and extortion scheme. Two former members of his inner circle, they claimed to the New York Times, were behind the swindle and framing of the rabbi.

So far there've been no arrests, but the United States attorney's office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are on the case.

The Rabbi's close circle told authorities that the Israeli Ofer Biton was the man who nabbed the donations that were supposed to go to charity.
