Police in Mississippi are investigating an active shooter situation reported on the campus of Jackson State University.

The active shooter was reported around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, placing the school into immediate lockdown as police rushed to the campus. The lockdown was lifted by 1 p.m., though police are now searching for the suspect responsible for injuring another person in the shooting.

Police received the call shortly after shots were heard in one of the campus parking lots. The school went into lockdown as Jackson State officials advised that people take shelter until the situation was officially resolved by authorities.

“We have an active shooter on campus,” school officials said in a statement. “The suspected shooter is in a black Honda Accord, license plate number MAC 0214. The entire campus community should take shelter immediately. The campus is currently on lockdown. We will notify you when the situation is resolved.”

Jackson Police Department reported one victim was found at the parking lot. The victim had reportedly been shot in the leg, which was revealed to be non-fatal, and was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police do not have an identity on the shooter and were unsure if it's a student. The victim was confirmed to not be a student.

Authorities are asking for any information that leads to the arrest of the alleged shooter.
