Less than half of Major League Baseball teams are on the schedule for the official start of the 2022 season. Because of the preseason lockout and predicted rainouts, MLB Opening Day games will take place over the course of two days.

Only seven games are scheduled for Thursday when the 2022 regular season begins. On Friday, 16 teams start their MLB campaigns in eight Opening Day games.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs kickoff the 2022 season with a matchup at Wrigley Field on Thursday afternoon. Three Opening Day games are scheduled for the late afternoon. The World Series champion Atlanta Braves start their title defense Thursday night when they host the Cincinnati Reds.

Two games that were scheduled for Thursday have been postponed to Friday because of rain in the forecast. The New York Yankees host the Boston Red Sox in what was supposed to be the very first Opening Day game of 2022. The opener between the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins has also been moved from Thursday to Friday.

The Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays will be the very last teams to play their first regular-season games of 2022. Toronto has emerged as the most popular World Series pick in the American League. Texas made two of the biggest splashes in free agency, signing Corey Seager and Marcus Semien for a combined $500 million.

There are 13 contests scheduled for Friday. A handful of teams don't have a off-day after Opening Day.
