  • Tanner Boser beat Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Vegas 30
  • Some believe Boser grabbed the fence which urged the referee to come in, causing Saint Preux to pause
  • The Canadian fighter expresses his thoughts on the matter on social media

A UFC heavyweight is sticking to his stance on what appears to be another controversial win.

Despite being down in the scorecards, Ovince Saint Preux managed to land a good takedown on Tanner Boser to establish a side control in the second round of their heavyweight bout at UFC Vegas 30.

As Boser attempted to get out of the said position, it seems as if the Canadian fighter may have grabbed the fence in the process.

This led to referee Jason Herzog barging in and putting his hand on the back of Saint Preux.

Things happened a bit too fast, but just before Herzog removed his hand off Saint Preux’s back, Boser appeared to be already getting back to his feet.

He then landed a big knee on Saint Preux in the clinch followed by a flurry of punches that convinced Herzog to stop the fight.

Boser’s win immediately got fans and the media buzzing as some believe that he really did grab the fence.

Shooting down the controversy, Boser lashed out at naysayers on Instagram saying, “Saved the summer. And I didn’t grab the damn fence, you dummies.”

Speaking to reporters after his victory, the 29-year-old already denied having anything to do with a fence grab.

“I heard his [Saint Preux’s] corner yelling, but I don’t remember doing it,” Boser said. “I don’t think there was [a fence grab].

“Their job is to be in the best interest of their fighter,” he continued. “If they believe that I grabbed the fence, they have every right to be angry. I don’t believe I grabbed the fence, I didn’t see on the replay that I grabbed the fence and I’m confident that I didn’t grab the fence."

"But if they believe that that’s what happened then they have every right to be upset because he’s their guy. It’s up to the coaches to be on their guy’s side.”

Saint Preux, meanwhile, has decided to file an appeal with the Nevada Athletic Commission based on the finishing sequence.

According to Saint Preux, the ref’s touching of his back implied that something is about to be called.

This has made him “pause” while in a very advantageous position, suggesting that it was the most crucial moment of the fight.

“I felt the ref put his hand on my back, which is only done to pause the action or call a finish,” Saint Preux said in a statement to MMA Fighting. “I slightly paused and then the tide turned.

“We will be protesting and requesting a no-contest."

Three weeks before UFC Vegas 30, Boser suffered a seemingly controversial split decision loss to Ilir Latifi at UFC Vegas 28.
