A woman was charged with child abandonment Monday after she left her four-month-old daughter outside the baby’s father’s home in Utah on Saturday.

The man’s neighbor found the infant alone in a car seat and took her inside their home before calling the police. It was freezing cold in South Salt Lake and the baby was reportedly outside for 30 minutes before she was rescued.

Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the neighbor who told them they first assumed the baby was crying inside the home but when they eventually looked out the window, they found the child crying in front of the man’s home, ABC-affiliated television station KTVX reported.

Since the neighbor had seen the baby before, they recognized her and unsuccessfully attempted to make contact with her parents before the officers arrived.

Paramedics too shortly arrived at the scene and took the baby to a nearby hospital as she had a fever.

Through the documents that were found in a baby bag left near the infant, the officers were able to identify 33-year-old Tawni Blymiller as the child’s mother.

The woman was then arrested and charged with child abandonment. An investigation into the incident was ongoing and the officers were unable to reach the baby’s father Monday.

Preliminary investigation revealed Utah Division of child and family services (DCFS) was already investigating a case against the mother regarding similar concerns.

DCFS caseworkers arrived at the hospital where the child was receiving treatment and spoke to the police officers about removing the infant from the mother’s care.

The officers then received a call from the neighbor saying, the baby’s parents were back at the man’s apartment and were having a heated argument.

The officers rushed to the scene and detained the mother. The father had left the scene before the cops arrived.

During interrogation, the woman told the investigators she left her daughter with the man to be watched. She had an agreement regarding the same with the baby’s father but didn’t have proof.

She arrived at the man’s home to drop the baby, she added. However, the two had an argument through the door during which the man said he wouldn’t open the door until the woman is gone, following which, she left the baby on the doorstep.

The neighbor, however, told the investigators there was no argument outside before they found the baby. Officers now believe the mother showed up at the man’s home and left the baby at the doorstep without informing him.
