A 24-year-old woman in India died, while undergoing a tubectomy at a local health camp.

Following the woman's death, her family alleged negligence on the part of the doctor, and protested against the facility Sunday.

The victim, who has been identified as only Geeta, was taken to the camp in the western state of Rajasthan, where she underwent sterilization Sunday along with 50 other women. However, during the operation, Geeta’s blood pressure went down, and her health deteriorated, The Times of India reported.

Doctors tried to treat her at the Chauhatan Community Health Center camp, but there was no improvement in her health. She was later referred to the district headquarters in the city of Barmer, Aaj Tak reported [Google Translate showed].

However, the woman died on the way to the hospital. Doctors at the government hospital in Barmer declared her dead on arrival.

The family of the victim filed a report against the camp, and called for action to be taken against the facility. The deceased’s next-of-kin said the carelessness of the doctor, who attended to the woman, caused her death.

The family members also refused to take the victim’s body for the last rites.

“The matter is being investigated. I spoke to doctors and they said her health suddenly deteriorated during sterilization and she was immediately referred to Barmer after the initial treatment,” Chauhatan officer Bhuttaram Vishnoi told The Times of India.

Local officers said the body of the woman was kept in the morgue. An autopsy would reveal the exact cause of death.

Geeta, a mother of three children, got married five years ago. Her sons are aged 2.5 years, 1.5 years and 2 months.

In February, a 3-month-old child allegedly died after he was administered the BCG vaccine, which is given to children to prevent tuberculosis. The incident took place near the city of Patna, located in the country's eastern state of Bihar. The child was given the vaccine at an Anganwadi – a type of rural child care center in the country. The center was located at Balipankad village in Paliganj. After receiving the vaccine, the child’s health deteriorated immediately, and he was declared dead at a sub-divisional hospital. Family members then blamed the center where the child was given the vaccine.
