The wildest night in music took place Sunday, Aug. 28. The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards at Madison Square Garden in New York City showcased some of the hottest artists and music videos to hit that MTV airwaves this year.

Big winners of the night included Beyoncé's "Formation" for Video Of The Year and her “Hold Up” for Best Female Video.

Calvin Harris ft. Rihanna's “This Is What You Came For” for Best Male Video, Fifth Harmony ft. Ty Dolla $ign's “Work From Home” for Best Collaboration and Drake's “Hotline Bling” for Best Hip Hop Video.

Rihanna received the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the ceremony and performed a whopping four times. Britney Spears took the stage with rapper G-Eazy, marking her first performance on the VMA stage since her critically panned performance at the show nine years prior.

Beyoncé also gave an epic live performance .

Halsey, Nick Jonas, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, The Chainsmokers, Future, G-Eazy, Ty Dolla $ign and, of course, Rihanna also appeared.

The pre-show, hosted by DJ Khaled, featured Alessia Cara, Jidenna and Lukas Graham.

But our favorite part of the night is always the unpredictable fashion! While some stars like Nicki Minaj killed it on the red carpet, others just looked like down right hot messes (looking at you Farrah Abraham). Check out which celebs were fab and the others who failed in our best and worst dressed list in the slide show above.
