Rocky Road ice cream first came out in 1929 as the delightful creation of William Dreyer. He created an ice cream flavor that was meant to lift people's spirits during hard times. He used his wife's scissors to cut up walnuts and marshmallows, which he mixed with his chocolate ice cream. It was named Rocky Road when the stock market crashed, "to give folks something to smile about."
