The death of Natalie Wood has remained a mystery since she drowned in 1981. A new development has led investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to name her husband, Robert Wagner, a person of interest.

The two were married twice, once in 1957 and a second time in 1972, and had one child together, Courtney Brooke Wagner. After Wood's death, Wagner raised his stepdaughter Natasha Gregson Wagner, from Wood's second marriage, as his own.

Courtney Wagner was born in 1974 just a couple of years after the couple’s second marriage. Wagner was just 7 years old when her mother died while on a trip to Catalina Island with her father. She’s a professional jewelry designer, Radar Online reported in 2015.

The 43-year-old has had a slightly troubled past. At the age of 14 she attempted suicide by cutting her wrists and again attempted suicide at the age of 23, according to her IMDB page. In 2005, her fiancé, Max LeRoy, son of former Tavern on the Green owner, Warner LeRoy, died in a motorcycle accident, according to a death notice in the New York Times.

In 2012, sounds of yelling and a gunshot from Wagner’s Malibu home prompted a neighbor to call the police. At the scene, police found cocaine and heroin in the home and arrested Wagner on suspicion of felony drug possession. Wagner was released the next day after posting bail.

Wood had her first child, Natasha Gregson Wagner, with her second husband, Richard Gregson. Wood separated from Gregson in 1971 and the couple's divorce was finalized in 1972. Gregson Wagner is now an actress known for roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Lost Highway."

"I remember her laugh, I remember her smell, and she was really into being a mom," Gregson Wagner said during an interview with "Good Morning America." After her mother's death, Robert Wagner raised his step-daughter Natasha as his own daughter.

"He is the greatest, I love him so much," she said to GMA about Robert Wagner. Gregson Wagner said she thinks her mother's death was an accident and said she knows her father didn't have anything to do with her mother's death.
