National Parks announced over the weekend five different dates it will be offering free entry to any of its parks for the day in 2023.

"National parks are really amazing places and we want everyone to experience them," National Park Service Director Chuck Sams said Saturday in a press release.

"The entrance fee-free days encourage people to discover the beauty, history and inspiration awaiting them in more than 400 national parks throughout the country," Sams added.

The dates include:

Jan. 16 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day

April 22 – First Day of National Park Week

Aug. 4 – Great American Outdoors Day

Sept. 23 – National Public Lands Day

Nov. 11 – Veterans Day

Park entrances usually cost anywhere from $5 to $35. There are 63 sites that include "National Park" as their name but there are many more locations protected by the service.

Some of the most popular National Parks include Grand Canyon National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, Zion National Park and more.

When the parks do charge for entrance, the money helps support the parks. It remains in the National Park Service with 80-100% staying in the park where it was collected.
