NBA 2K17 MyTeam players can start voting in the Pink Diamond Tournament Thursday, as 16 league stars go head to head to be nominated for the game’s next Pink Diamond MyTeam honors. In a surprising twist, cut Nets forward Anthony Bennett managed to squeeze onto the ballot. 2K tweeted the full ladder seen below.

Voting is set to take place daily March 16 - April 1 with one matchup every 24 hours. Top-tier talent like Rudy Gay, Dwyane Wade, Derrick Rose and Joel Embiid make a ton of sense, of course. Someone who doesn’t, however, is Bennett. Generally considered the worst first-round pick in NBA history, he averaged just 39 percent shooting across four different teams. Earlier this year he was released from the Nets and dropped by the league.

That pitiful title didn’t stop 2K from featuring him for a Pink Diamond promotion, though. For folks out of the MyTeam loop, Pink Diamond cards are very limited and only reserved for the game’s best players. Typically you’d get something with an overall rating in the 90s. In 2K, Bennett hovered around 70 overall before being let go.

With voting set to conclude April 1, one has to wonder if the fine folks at 2K Sports are setting up for a major April Fools’ Day prank. A quick glance at reddit suggests many enthusiasts plan to vote Bennett as a troll. Are the developers counting on that being a widespread trend, or are they willing to fix the results for a little fun? We’ll have a clue of that in a few weeks.

It’s also worth noting that it’s not yet clear how the Pink Diamond winner will be doled out. The general assumption is that players will be able to briefly try out the card with a locker code, while the real deal has a very low percentage of being found in packs. If you’re interested in the proceedings, be sure to check out the voting schedule in the tweet above.

NBA 2K17 is available now on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
