A reported statement could possibly shed light to the viral incident involving Phoenix Suns superstar Chris Paul’s mother and some Dallas Mavericks fans.

On Sunday, May 8, Paul made the headlines, but it wasn’t about anything he has done inside the court in Game 4 of their Western Conference semifinals series against the Mavs.

Instead, it was because of his involvement in the reported incident between his family and some Mavs fans who were sitting courtside at the American Airlines Center.

In a viral video clip on social media, the veteran point guard could be seen almost getting into an altercation with a younger male fan, who was being escorted by security on his way out of the facility.

To this day, it is still unclear what started the incident, but Paul’s mother Robin has now shared her side of the story.

Apparently, the Mavericks fan was "obviously inebriated” and was repeatedly “tapping her on the shoulder” while “wishing her happy Mother’s Day" despite "politely" being asked to stop, per Dallas Morning News’ Brad Townsend.

"On TNT, Kenny Smith says that Chris Paul’s mother, Robin, reached out to explain what happened with the young Dallas fan,” Townsend tweeted. “She said the fan was obviously inebriated and kept tapping her on the shoulder and wishing her happy Mother’s Day, even after she politely asked him to stop."

Shortly after the incident, the Mavericks released a statement, explaining what happened and the resolution they have come up with.

According to the statement, the Mavericks do not condone such behavior inside the American Airlines Arena and they have banned the fans involved in the incident until 2023.

“Two unruly fans attempted to give unwanted hugs and have conversations with members of the Paul family on the public concourse of American Airlines Center,” the statement read. “AAC security responded immediately once notified by the family and the fans were swiftly ejected from the game. The fans involved in the incident will not be allowed to return to the arena until 2023.”

Paul, on the other hand, expressed his rage over the matter on social media, stressing that the league should really be fair in addressing fan-player incidents during games.

“Wanna fine players for saying stuff to the fans, but the fans can put their hands on our families… f*** that,” the 37-year-old tweeted.
