KEY POINTS

  • Avery Bradley could reunite with the Lakers if he gets bought out by the Rockets
  • A reunion with Bradley would be perfect with the Lakers now undermanned
  • The Lakers could give Bradley a second NBA ring

The Los Angeles Lakers will be a team to watch now that the NBA trade deadline has lapsed.

Though they were mentioned in a potential NBA trade deal, nothing went down. Now, they are expected to wait on buyout candidates, and there is one name that could interest them in a reunion.

The names of Andre Drummond and LaMarcus Aldridge headline the imminent buyout market. Both are now working that out with their respective teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the San Antonio Spurs respectively.

However, players who got traded could be joining the mix. There is one former Laker that comes to mind–Avery Bradley.

Bradley was sent to the Houston Rockets as part of the Victor Oladipo trade. But seeing that the Space City squad has a cramped backcourt, the possibility of seeing the 30-year-old guard getting bought out is looming large according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

It will be recalled that Bradley opted to sit out for the Lakers last season during the Orlando bubble. He missed a chance to play in the 2020 NBA Finals but was nevertheless gifted with an NBA ring.

In the offseason, he elected to move out and join the Miami Heat. That stint was hardly significant with the 6-foot-3 guard playing only 10 games with the South Beach brigade. He normed 8.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 21 minutes of action.

Bradley’s numbers were just about the same as his production with the Lakers last season. However, his familiarity with head coach Frank Vogel could make him a sensible target.

If that prospers, it would give him another chance to possibly play in the NBA Finals and rightfully earn an NBA ring.

As most know, LeBron James and Anthony Davis remain out due to injuries. But even if the two were healthy, it remains that the Lakers need some help in the backcourt.

Dennis Schroder has been the lone bright spot although Alex Caruso has managed to help out. Reuniting with Bradley could help the Lakers' campaign, especially now that they are struggling with a depleted lineup.

But of course, the main target for the Lakers is Drummond. Once the 6-foot-10 player is officially bought out, expect the Lakers to come back knocking.
