  • The name of the player who called Jeremy Lin "coronavirus" has not been revealed, with the matter being handled internally
  • Lin is discussing the repercussions of the slur with the unnamed player
  • Lin is still waiting for NBA return dream to be fulfilled

The NBA G-League has tracked down the player who called Jeremy Lin “coronavirus” during a game. The 32-year-old revealed the incident last month as he raised awareness once more of the discrimination that he and other Asian Americans have been facing.

An unnamed G-League spokesperson confirmed in a statement shared by The Athletic's Shams Charania that the matter is now being handled internally. It was a move supported by Lin, who has also spoken to the player regarding the racism and violence toward Asian-Americans. However, the name of the player has not been announced.

"We're handling this matter internally, a decision supported by Jeremy Lin. Lin has met with the player to discuss the escalating racism and violence toward Asian Americans, and the player understands the impact that hearing this comment had on Lin."

Last month, Lin opened up about the struggles of the Asian American community, as well as the discrimination he experienced while playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors, in a social media post.

"We are tired of the stereotypes in Hollywood affecting our psyche and limiting who we think we can be. We are tired of being invisible, of being mistaken for our colleague or told our struggles aren't as real," Lin’s Facebook post read.

Santa Cruz ended its G-League stint when they lost in the semifinals to the Lakeland Magic. Lin ended the game with 20 points and four assists. The focus now shifts to whether "Linsanity" will get that call to officially mark his return in the NBA.

For Lin to get a spot on the Golden State Warriors roster, someone would need to be waived. Aside from that, there are money matters tied to adding him to the lineup. These are just some of the factors involved before Lin can finally fulfill that dream of returning to the NBA.

There is no telling as well if other NBA teams would give Lin a try. Right now, most are trying to figure out moves with the NBA trade deadline set for March 25. After that, the attention shifts to players who could be bought out. Only then can Lin and other free agent hopefuls have a chance at a possible stint.

Lin last played for the Toronto Raptors team that won the 2018-19 NBA season. He hardly got any playing time, and his NBA ring is somehow bittersweet.

Lin then took his act to the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) before finally embarking on an NBA return. Having waited this long, all Lin can do now is wait for hopefully something that will be rewarding.
