KEY POINTS

  • Ben Simmons won’t initiate trade deals on the behalf of the Sixers
  • The Cavaliers may give up Love and Sexton for Simmons in a huge trade
  • The Sixers need to resolve the issue with the new NBA season approaching

The Philadelphia 76ers and Ben Simmons have yet to find a way to resolve their conundrum with the 2021-22 NBA season fast approaching.

In a report by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on The Jump, Simmons allegedly sent a clear message to the Sixers organization. This is with regards to his trade value which he believes is not his job.

This also means that it is not his job to find a new team or trade partner for the Sixers. In summary, it appears the ball is on the front office's court to find an amicable solution on the issue.

Furthermore, the contract of Simmons is another thing that is worth digging into. According to Windhorst, the 25-year-old can play hardball if he wants to with the Philly management.

Windhorst explains how it is structured in a way where Simmons will get half of his money by October 1. That is worth roughly $16.5 million, half of his $33 million for this NBA season.

Hence, if fines would come his way, he can surely cover it.

Given those facts, it appears that the Sixers are the ones who have to act if they want to resolve the Simmons situation and completely focus on the coming season.

To date, several teams have been linked to the three-time All-Star. That list includes the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves.

However, the chances of these teams pulling off a trade have gotten lower and lower by the day. A reason behind that is addressing the $147 million balance in the 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year’s contract.

One team that has also been linked to Simmons is the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In a previous post, it was mentioned how trading for Ben Simmons could address the Cavs' alleged dilemma on Kevin Love and Collin Sexton.

Moreover, it gives the Aussie cager a chance to start fresh and possibly tandem with young guard Darius Garland.

If the Cavs push with the deal, they would likely add some future picks as well to cover the salary of Simmons.
