  • Damian Lillard hints that he wants to have Ben Simmons as a teammate in Portland
  • CJ McCollum looms as the Blazers' sacrificial lamb to acquire Simmons
  • NBA teams are figuring out how to cover Simmons' $147 million contract

The Portland Trail Blazers were mentioned as a team that could make a move on disgruntled Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons.

Based on a social media reaction by resident superstar Damian Lillard, the Blazers may want to boost their efforts.

On Twitter, fans could not help but notice the 31-year-old liking a photo of the former top pick on a Trail Blazers uniform.

While it could mean nothing, the move is seen by some as an indication that the six-time All-Star may want Simmons in Portland as his teammate.

It is no secret that if Portland wants to keep Lillard, getting him help is a must. But considering Simmons is still owed $147 million in his current deal, whipping up a trade will not be easy.

One name that was mentioned previously is CJ McCollum. Although Lillard is fancied by the 76ers, the 29-year-old would be the next best thing.

Aside from that, Portland would have to deal out some future picks to make it work.

McCollum heading to the 76ers makes sense. Head coach Doc Rivers needs shooters and the 2016 NBA Most Improved Player makes plenty of sense.

Also, a move to Philly from Portland could be a chance for the Ohio native to come into his own.

Although he has managed to co-exist with Lillard with the Blazers, it remains that he is playing under the shadows of the 6th overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft.

Simmons is bent on leaving the Sixers and informed management that he has no plans to stay with the team.

This means that the Australian cager is unlikely to be at training camp and that Philly needs to find a trade partner fast.

Of course, the Blazers are not the only ones linked to the 6-foot-11 cager. The Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and Minnesota Timberwolves have been linked to him although sealing a deal is not easy.

The big stumbling block is the $147 million contract that Simmons carries. The Kings and Warriors are reluctant to deal with some of their players, hinting that it may take a while before the three-time All-Star finds a new home.
