KEY POINTS

  • Memphis won't buy out Andre Iguodala yet
  • Grizzlies feel that an NBA trade can still be done
  • Iguodala has yet to play this NBA season

The NBA trade deadline is barely a month away and there are several names already speculated to be on the move. One name that most have overlooked is Andre Iguodala.

After being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in the offseason, the 35-year-old has yet to suit up and plan an official NBA game this season. The move was part of the Golden State Warriors plan to sign D'Angelo Russell to take up the vacant slot left by an injured Klay Thompson.

However, it was believed that the Grizzlies would eventually move Iguodala to another team. And it appears that belief remains the same to this day, Brian Windhorst learned from sources (via RealGM).

"The word on the street is that they really do believe that they're going to find a trade for Iguodala," he said.

For those following the plight of Andre Iguodala this season, this is technically old news. Memphis believes they can get something out of a potential deal for the 35-year-old swingman rather than buy him out. But with the trade deadline set for Feb. 6, their outlook and plans could end up as most predicted.

"Well, they've been adamant about it for months, but now that we're in the zone where they're actually having real talks. Again, what I feel in talking to people out there is that they do think that's going to happen," said Brian Windhorst on ESPN's "The Hoop Collective".

Several teams have expressed interest in getting the 2015 NBA Finals MVP. Shams Charania of The Athletic mentioned the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers who have inquired with the Grizzlies. But it appears these teams plus other ballclubs who were not mentioned would prefer to see what happens after Feb. 6. Should that happen, Memphis could end up with nothing in return for the three-time NBA champion.

Iguodala holds career averages of 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. His numbers during the 2018-19 season took a dip, largely due to injuries that hampered his season. Though he is already 35, months of rest should rejuvenate the 9th overall pick of the 2004 NBA Draft. He could still be a good player off the bench who can provide offense and defense any day.
