Matthew Dellavedova is currently in Foshan, China to help Australia in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Despite the busy schedule, the 29-year-old took time out to discuss several things about the Cleveland Cavaliers and himself. It turns out that the former NBA champion will become a father soon, revealing that his wife (Anna Schroeder), is pregnant.

“Actually, I have some exciting news to share,” Dellavedova said in a discussion via the Cleveland Cavaliers Twitter. “Anna, my wife, is pregnant, so we’re expecting a baby boy. So, really excited to become a dad.”

Other than that, Dellavedova also said that he was getting himself into shape for the coming NBA season. He plans to further strengthen his legs as he enters his seventh NBA season. Delly will be entering the final year of his contract with the Cavs. There is no official word yet on whether he will be re-signed next season. Seeing how Cleveland continues to rebuild, he is likely to be traded away once more to teams in need of a veteran guard.

Rather than worry about that, it appears the Australian guard is all business in China. Against Canada, Dellavedova poured in 24 points to lead the Boomers in a big fourth-quarter run to outscore the Canadians. Best known as a rugged defender, Delly does have the offensive prowess to show when needed in any situation. For Australia, his offensive leadership will be a big need - something he could also use to possibly gain the attention of other NBA teams watching the FIBA World Cup.

As for the coming NBA season, the Cavs are hardly given a chance to make the playoffs by pundits. This is even though Kevin Love is still around, looking fit and ready for the 2019-20 NBA season. but for the Cavs to make a good run, head coach John Beilein will need to get more from other players in the mix. That includes Larry Nance Jr., Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton and rookie Darius Garland who are considered future faces of the franchise.

From the young guards mentioned alone, it is clear that Dellavedova will have a rough time keeping his spot. Anything is possible and his performance could just convince Beilein to keep him. And perhaps that is the reason why he is working on strengthening his legs.
