Steve Kerr is currently with Team USA as an assistant to Gregg Popovich as they prepare for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup and was on the bench when the team suffered its first loss in 78 games to Australia on Aug. 25. It was an exhibition game but both teams played to win and there were some impressive performances with Patty Mills leading the way with 30 points and NBA veteran Andrew Bogut scoring 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Golden State Warriors head coach is very familiar with Bogut, who has played for the Warriors in two different stints with the most recent being in the 2019 NBA playoffs while he has previously also played Lakers, Bucks, Cavaliers and Mavericks. Kerr continues to be impressed by the 34-year-old’s ability to get better as the years go by and revealed that he would again be open to signing the center for the upcoming campaign.

The Bay Area team were beaten in the 2019 NBA Finals by Toronto Raptors and lost Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala in the offseason. D’Angelo Russell was their biggest acquisition of the summer and they currently have 14 guaranteed contracts, which leaves one roster spot open going into training camp.

“We loved having Bogues at the Warriors last year,” Kerr said during an interview with the Daily Telegraph, as quoted on News.com.au. “I think it was really good for him to play in Sydney. Part of that was just being home. It’s a better lifestyle than the NBA. But yeah, [Bogut returning to the Warriors] is something that I’d be into again."

“He is one of the best passing big men who has ever lived,” Kerr added. “What he did for the Boomers in that win against Team USA didn’t surprise me. Andrew just seems rejuvenated to me. From a few years ago to now, he is playing better than he has in years.”

Bogut also played for the Sydney Kings in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) last season winning the MVP and Best Defensive Player honors. He is contracted to play for them again this season when the campaign gets underway in October, but the Warriors can again sign him up for the latter half of the campaign.
