A Nebraska resident was hailed as a hero after saving three people when their car sank in an icy pond on Saturday.

Terry Ingram was taking pictures of eagles in Bellevue when he saw a car lose control and plunge into the icy water.

According to the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, three men were driving the white sedan when the driver lost control of it while crossing the railroad tracks, reported by KET7.

“They hit the fire hydrant and I don’t think they even reached the ground,” Ingram said. “They were already airborne.”

The car broke through the frozen water and landed upside down. Ingram called 911 and ran to the group’s rescue.

"I panicked when I heard the guy's voice. 'Get me out, it's filling full of water,'" said Ingram. "Once I pulled the door open, the water started going in, and he was coming out. Just seeing those bodies there, I thought they were gone."

Two of the men were taken to Nebraska Medicine for non-life-threatening injuries while the driver’s sister reported that her brother is being monitored for hypothermia. Officers said that the two of the men were aged 19 while the third man’s age is unknown.
