Netflix launched Monday its dedicated virtual reality (VR) app for the Google Daydream View headset. The app will allow Daydream View owners to watch its content in the form of 360 degree videos. All currently available content from the company has been made accessible for Google’s VR headset, presently the only VR headset with Netflix VR support.

Customers can opt for a 30-day free trial after which they would have to pay according to their subscription plans.

Netflix will compete with other VR streaming services such as Hulu VR. While Netflix’s app is designed for Google’s VR headsets, Hulu’s VR app is available to Samsung Gear VR users. Both apps have their differences.

Netflix’s VR app transports the VR user to a virtual cabin with red furniture and posters of movies such as Daredevil and Bojack in the background. The TV in the cabin will play Netflix shows and customers can also use their Daydream controllers to replace the environment with a floating screen, the size of which can be determined by users.

Hulu has a better range of virtual environments, ranging from a modern living room to a beach theme. Daytime and nighttime environments are also included in the preferences.

Both Netflix and Hulu offer a vast range of content to users in form of 360-degree videos. While Netflix started its VR service Monday, Hulu has been doing it since March.
