Netflix’s “Hollywood” is a fast binge-watch with just seven episodes, and fans already want more. Will the Ryan Murphy series be canceled or renewed? As a miniseries, the answer is less straightforward than viewers would like.

“Hollywood” can’t be canceled because it was a miniseries. It fulfilled its seven-episode order for Netflix, so technically, the revisionist historical drama is over. However, “Big Little Lies” has proved that limited series can be renewed if there is enough interest.

Unfortunately, showrunner Ryan Murphy doesn’t seem compelled to extend the stories of this particular group. He enjoys that he is no longer beholden to the 22-episode season and five or more years. “I just think it's better. I think that [the limited series format] a more concentrated, powerful form of storytelling,” Murphy told OprahMag.com.

Murphy is known for his anthology series. “American Horror Story” and “American Crime Story” have been very successful, and “Feud” is expected to return for another chapter as well. It seems like the same could become of Netflix’s “Hollywood.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Netflix and Murphy are considering a Season 2 renewal, but it wouldn’t follow Jack, Archie, Avis or Camille. Instead, it would bring back the cast, which included Jim Parsons, Laura Harrier, Patti LuPone and Darren Criss, and have them play all new roles—similar to “American Horror Story.”

“There's already talk of a season two, which would pick up in the late 1960s, with many of the same actors in entirely new roles,” THR reported in late April.

It seems like some cast members would be happy to return. LuPone told the Daily Beast that she’s ready to star in a possible 1960s limited series, and she’s already excited about the costumes. “You bet. ‘Please Ryan, bring me back.’ Oh yeah. I’m already imagining the go-go boots and mini-skirts,” she said.

At press time, making “Hollywood” an anthology season has not been confirmed. Fans will have to wait to see if Murphy and Netflix make any big announcements.
