The new show on Netflix, “Selena: The Series,” features a familiar face some might recognize from the 1997 film.

Seidy López, who played Deborah, Selena’s friend in “Selena” in 1997, was cast to play Selena’s mom in the new Netflix original series.

Deborah goes with Selena to the mall to try on various dresses before the 1994 Grammys, which is a well-known scene. López will still be beside Selena in this show, but as Marcella Quintanilla.

This nine-episode first season follows Selena through her rise to fame and all the obstacles that came along with it. Viewers can also see her relationships with her family and friends while she rises to fame.

Part one, or Season 1, was released on Dec. 4, and some have recognized Lopez from the movie and a few other roles she’s played.

Throughout the years, she’s been featured on shows and in movies like “Shameless,” “CSI: NY,” “American Family,” Mi Vida Loca” and “Blink of an Eye.”

“It is so special. In many ways, it almost felt like me peeking into my own childhood, through my mom's perspective,” López explained to NBC News about coming back as Selena’s mother.

Selena was a musical icon who paved the way for many Latina and Latino artists, even though she was Mexican-American. She was killed when she was just 23-years-old by Yolanda Saldivar, Selena’s own agent.

A second season, or “Part 2,” has already finished filming.
